Waiting for COVID

This morning, I’m pretty sure I encountered a member or two of the Covid Witnesses.

I was walking my requisite loop around the disc golf course and encountered a scrum of three individuals standing on one side of the walking path having an impassioned discussion about something that’s going to happen on the 20th with vaccines, or testing, or some other component of this great brainwashing experiment we’ve been subjected to over the last 18 months.

They had a few small dogs with them who could really give two shits and a twist about what their conspiracy mongering handlers were babbling about.  For that matter, they didn’t even care that my dog was put off by their very existence on the trail, let alone on this planet.

I’m not really going to burn a lot of calories discussing that encounter though.  It’s the same ole stuff I can hear anywhere now, whether it’s on the national or local news, in department meetings conducted via video conference, or on a walking trail where the danger of stepping in poop at the same time of being hit in the head with an errantly thrown frisbee is clear and present.

I also encountered an old man out there with a few young boys setting off rockets.  Gone are the days when my parents’ insurance policy and I would go out to the Boy Scout Camp during the summer and shoot those things off.  I think the last time I engaged in such activity, it was Senior Ditch Day and a friend and I set a few off in the backyard, much to the chagrin of Mom’s Malamute.

Moving on.

Ladies and gentlemen, in the last 18 months, I’ve generally taken on the role of a scofflaw against the general consensus.

I’ve barely worn a mask, and that was only when the mandates were in effect.

I attended what could be characterized as two super spreader events in the form of a rehearsal dinner and a wedding during the summer of 2020 when things were getting feisty.

I’ve been to a host of toy stores to obtain power tools and materials on which to use my power tools.  I’ve sought out other stuff to buy out of a sense of need or even want.  Most notable would be trips to the grocery store where I continued to leave my ugly mug exposed to the elements.

Last fall, I stood in line at the library to ultimately be let into a crowded room where I could cast a vote in an election which could be corrupted, but not audited.

I’m among those who are waiting so far back in line for the vaccine, that I may never take it.

Why haven’t I gotten the virus?

Rest assured, I don’t doubt the existence of the coronavirus or its ability to cause problems.

What I do doubt is my ability to get it as easily as others have.

In the end, I believe it comes down to genetics and behavior that will determine if/when I get it.

I guess I’ll just wait patiently.
