Ifs & Butts

Make no mistake.  I spelled it that way in the title on porpoise.

I may or may not circle back to that whimsical little litter-ary device later on.

Suffice to say, and much to the chagrin of every English teacher who ever demanded I write a book report, essay, or term paper, I don’t outline these posts out beforehand.  Instead, I start with an idea and just let that thing which is best described as my stream of consciousness take over; complete with strategic placement of misspellings, malaprops, sockdolagers, and the occasional spoonerism.

Well crud, there’s a little red squiggly line.  I should probably look that one up to make sure I’ve used it correctly.

Okay, it’s fixed.  It had too many ‘o’s and not enough ‘a’s.

Just the other day, while reading the updated “Return To Office” guidelines at work for what seems to be the kabillionth time, I continued to marvel at all of the ridiculous protocols which are being put in place under the guise of promoting associate health.

Did I say “promoting”?

Perhaps I did, but understand the correct pronunciation of that word is more like “catastrophizing”.

While going through those protocols, something struck me.  “Man alive, things wouldn’t be this bad if she had won.”

I’ll give you a moment to collect yourself over the premise I just suggested.

Take a few deep breaths, get a glass of water, and find your happy place, because I’m going to say it again.

Are you ready?

Had Hillary Rodham Clinton, 1st in Her Name, Great Protector of the Foundation, Hurler of Lamps, Appropriator of the Southern Dialect, Bleacher of Bits, and Great Purveyor of What Does It Matter won the 2016 Presidential election, our collective reaction to the escape of a manufactured virus from a laboratory in China would have been a lot better than it has been.

I guess I should tell you why.

From the point that Donald Trump announced his bid for the Presidency in 2015, America has torn herself apart over whether such a brash asshole should be in charge.

There were plenty in his own party which felt he shouldn’t be there, and no one on the other side wanted him there either.

Audacious hypocrisy, bold obfuscation, subterfuge, and misrepresentation of the facts were used by his detractors every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month of every year of Trump’s term in office to get him out.

So much so that they impeached him.

Twice.

Understand that everything that could have been used against Trump was.

So when the ‘Vid emerged from its gestational pod at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and had its coming out party in early 2020, various state and local governments seized on the opportunity to use the virus as a means to shut down the roaring economy which had been ushered in by the brash asshole.

Because nothing kills the re-election bid of a President with an ‘R’ at the back of their name faster than a bad economy.

But wait, there was more.

The same wretched hive of scum and villainy took things further by changing election laws (illegally on most occasions) to conform to the paradigm that we were all locked down and couldn’t go into the public.  Thus we got mail-in balloting, and drop boxes.

Because there’s never an opportunity to commit fraud with stuff like that.

All of that effort to get rid of Trump.

On the other hand, what if Hillary would have won in 2016?

Excuse me whilst I fight back the shuddering and puckering associated with that thought.

First and foremost, we wouldn’t really be aware of just how swampy the bureaucratic state is.  Our only inkling of this idea would be from the rantings of the radical fringe which litter the airwaves and podcasts with their far-fetched conspiracy theories.

Secondly, Hillary wouldn’t have been under the same constant attack from the media and the bureaucratic state like Trump was.  She’s all about the swamp, and the media likes her more.

So if Hillary had won in 2016, COVID would not have been used against her like it was against Trump.

Clinton and her minions would have successfully downplayed the effects of the virus.

A vaccination, if any, would be years down the road.

Terms like spike protein, myocarditis, T-cell immunity, work from home, return to office, vaccine passport, vaccine hesitancy, mask mandate, social distancing, PEP, and Let’s Go Brandon would not be in the zeitgeist right now.

The economy would not have been shut down, because it would have been detrimental to Hillary’s 2020 re-election bid.

State and local governments would not have intervened with the tyranny that they did, because they didn’t have the ultimate goal of getting rid of Trump.

Instead, Clinton would still be in power and she’d be contemplating sending troops to Ukraine in order to protect all of the evidence against Joe Biden as he prepares for a run in 2024.

The likes of Anthony Fauci, the Centers for Disease Control, and the World Health Organization would still have their credibility intact.  China would be our friend and that doosh up in Canada wouldn’t be accusing truckers of having unacceptable views.

One has to wonder if we would have been better off.

Thankfully, we’ll never know.
