BookWorming

At some point in the early days of last October, I came to a conclusion that I needed to read more.

All things being equal, I was already reading plenty enough if you counted sitting down a couple of times a week and taking in random posts which are scattered over ten years of verbal brilliance strategically placed throughout this particular website.

Even still, I wrote all of the pieces I had been reading and knew for the most part how they would end.  I also had the advantage over any other reader of knowing just what in tarnation was going through the author’s skull when those particular collections of thoughts and witticisms were committed to the vast collection of computers and servers which had been networked together to share information, ideas, and pictures of nekid ladies.

There are plenty of learned individuals out there who have achieved notoriety in a variety of fields who will tell you to read any and everything.

Hang on.  Faith just realized it’s Saturday.  Gotta take her to the park.

*pause for effect*

Okay I’m back.

An interesting turn of events with taking the doggie to the park came up this morning.  The entire park area which includes the dog park, the skateboard park, the skateboarding dog park, the picnic grounds, and the disc golf course has all been blocked off by the parks department.  Even the wardrobe at the back of the park which provides a secret entrance with Mr. Tumnus on the other side was closed.  It seems the area was hosting some sort of walkathon designed to raise funds for the crisis coming later this year.

For those of you not in the know, approximately half of this country will encounter a severe bout of unhinged cognitive dissonance on the first Wednesday after the first Monday of this coming November.  It will be on that day that those affected will be confronted with the fact that their grasp of reality is tenuous at best.

It’s nice to know that when humanity can see issues arising in the near future, we have a way of planning for their arrival ahead of time.  The walkathon seems like a good idea for raising funds for extra security blankets, compassion tents, grief counselling, and a binky or two.

It’s also nice to know that I was able to make a literary reference there in my short story about walking the dog this morning, thus providing a pathway back to the dispatch at hand about reading more.

So anyway, I’m reading more.

There had been a point in the years leading up to 2018 when I had all but sworn off the practice because of all the issues I was having with my vision.  Once I got my look-balls fixed, I haven’t had any valid reason to stay away from the written word.  I was writing plenty of them, why not read some which I had not produced?

The general goal has been to read at least one book between each of my two monthly paydays.  That’s two books a month for those of you keeping score, however I seem to be averaging more than that now.

Not being one to miss signs of irony, it should be stated right here and now that the eight books I’ve read between mid-October and last Tuesday have been bookended by failure.

See what I just did there?

I don’t really mean failure in the since that something went horribly awry.

If you consider this literary foray as an Oreo cookie, the first book and the latest book have each made up the chocolate cookie portion of this mission to date.

It started with How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big by Scott Adams.  Earlier this week, I finished Failure Is an Option by H. Jon Benjamin.

Save for a piece of fiction I started on Wednesday and another one I read at the end of the year, everything else has been non-fiction ranging in a variety of topics.

I won’t list off what I’ve read, or what I’m reading now for a number of reasons.  The primary reason is that it would be pretty boring for you and me.

Just know that each of the books I’ve consumed will serve as just another piece in the puzzle which will round out my narcissistic and sociopathic tendencies quite nicely.  Isn’t that set of skills one that you want to see your favorite blogger on the whole worldwide internet wield with finely tuned accuracy and precision?

I should think so.
