Burning Rice

With the recent re-election of Barack Obama and the confirmation that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was getting the hell out of Dodge, there’s been a great deal of hub-bub, hootin’, hollerin’, pissin’ and moanin’ over the possibility that UN Ambassador Susan Rice will be nominated to replace the outgoing secretary.

For those of you who have been drawing pictures of marauding Martians on your cave walls on the red planet for the last few months, I’ll provide a little background.

When four Americans died in Benghazi on September 11th of this year, the Obama Administration was quick to blame the incident on a YouTube video which criticizes Islam.  This accusation was in spite of the fact that they knew the incident was a terrorist attack where Al Qaeda was involved.

By the way.  They knew it was terrorism as it happened.

As.

It.

Happened.

The events of that day in the White House have come under a great deal of scrutiny since then, as it would seem the administration did not take sufficient steps to beef up security prior to the attack, respond with the necessary force to repel the attack and save the lives of our people during the attack, or tell the truth after the attack.

In the days and weeks that followed, administration officials, including Susan Rice took to the media with their claims that the incident was not terrorism and that it was in response to the aforementioned video.

Liar, liar, pants on fire.

Understandably so, there are those in Congress who would move to derail a Rice nomination to the roll of Secretary of State, because of the length of her nose and how it’s grown in recent months.

There’s your background.

So here’s a caveat.

I do not know enough about Susan Rice in her current roll or any of her previous work experience to make a qualified judgment on whether she would be a good Secretary of State.  Frankly, I had never even heard of her prior to the Benghazi attack.

Based on her behavior over the Benghazi attack alone, Susan Rice is automatically disqualified in my book to be Secretary of State.

Set that aside and consider the following.

Susan Rice is eminently qualified to be Barack Obama’s Secretary of State.

Certainly she will never live up to the standards laid down by any one of her predecessors (even the bad ones).

Consider the following though.

She went out there and took one for the team by helping to perpetuate the lie the Administration offered up about Benghazi.

Granted, she may have done it on a quid pro quo  basis, but she did tow the line.

The pre-emptive lying pretty much sets the bar on what we can expect from her.  There will be no confirmation hearings completed under the basis that this nominee has never told a whopper or two.

More importantly, her boss isn’t really known for making kick ass, whiz bang nominations for cabinet posts, Supreme Court Justices, and other positions that he has to fill.

Given Obama’s track record for filling offices with the likes if Eric Holder, Timothy Geithner, Élena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, Kathleen Sebelius, and Janet Napolitano, what makes you think that the President would actually come up with a more valuable choice?

So given the fact that Obama is involved and still in power, my statement stands.

Susan Rice is eminently qualified to be Barack Obama’s Secretary of State.
