A Griller’s Prayer

As the happiest time of the year quickly approaches with the arrival of Memorial Day in a few weeks, I think it’s only fitting that we should offer up a prayer to the Almighty with a humble request for a good season.

Please bow your heads.

Father in Heaven,

We come to You with grateful hearts for the bounty you have provided in the past and will continue to provide in the future.

Our hope is in You.

We come to You today Father in preparation of the next Grilling Season which begins in a few weeks.  We ask that You rain down upon all of the grillers in Your service continuous rays of sunshine and beautiful weather.  “Rain down” may not be the correct wording in such a request to You Lord, but I’m sure You know what I mean.

From those of us using charcoal, we ask that our coals light up immediately.  Allow the coals to expeditiously move into a continuous glowingrill statusg state sufficient enough for us to hold our hands approximately 6 inches over the heat for a period no longer than 10 seconds before a burning sensation sets in.  At the same time, grant us the courage and ability to select the correct amount of briquettes to do the job we’re looking to do.  No more, no less, nothing else.

From those of us using propane, we ask that our tanks be full, our valves turn smoothly, our nozzles remain unblocked, and our igniters flare on the first attempt.  We also request Your help in remembering to turn the valve off when our sessions are complete.

We ask that our hot dogs and sausage stay put on the rack and not roll off into the flames, that our beef respond affectionately to indirect heat, our hamburger patties stay intact, and that our chicken cooks all the way through without getting rubbery.

Grill ChoirIn addition to the beasts You have fortified upon this Earth for us to grill, we also humbly request Your guidance in the grilling of fruits and vegetables.  May the application of fire to these gifts enhance their flavor.

In closing Father, we ask that the items we grill this year not only burst with flavor, but also nourish  our bodies, minds, and spirits as we endeavor to reflect and resonate Your Glory.

In Your Son’s name,

Amen.

….and the choir of $80 grills sing…..
