This goes out to my fellow Gen X-ers who used to take in the occasional boxing match to watch a member of our own exact a factory reset to his opponent within mere moments of entering the ring. I think Billy Crystal once called it an HBO comedy series.
I’m talking about Mike Tyson.
Last night, I stayed up way past my bedtime watching Netflix glitch while trying to relive those days of the late 80’s in hopes of watching Tyson clean another clock.
Instead, I watched him go the distance knowing that the closest he came to hitting the CTL + ALT + Delete on his opponent was on the day before in the pre-emptive face off.
I watched his opponent show him respect moments before the final bell.
The bout was then over, and the judges ruled unanimously in favor of his opponent. That was the guy who still had a dirty clock.
I then went to bed.
I’ll summarize to drive home the message.
Last night I tried to relive my glory days by staying up late to watch a member of my own generation relive his glory days by cleaning the clock of someone who appears to be in his own set of glory days.
Those of us who were trying to relive those glory days (the one in the ring and those of us who were probably glitching just as much as Netflix was) got tired and came to the realization that the particular set of glory days which gave us glory in the first place are no longer accessible to us.
Optimistically speaking, that just gives us an opportunity to create a new set of glory days.
