Doing Something

In recent years, it’s been rare for me to come out here to the internet to post a diatribe or otherwise salty rant about the various current events which haven’t fully transitioned from the windshield to the rearview mirror.

The primary reason is that whatever I have to offer to the conversation has already been said. We’re now at a point where what needs to be said, hasn’t been.

Until now.

Just yesterday, I made a few mental notes about the latest demands around gun control in the wake of what happened in Uvalde this last week.

“Restricting gun rights from everyone because of the actions of a few would be like restricting air travel for everyone because of the actions of the few who want to blow planes out of the sky or crash them into buildings.”

That one doesn’t hold up because that’s exactly what’s been done.

How about this one?

“We should restrict our car driving rights because of those who practice road rage.  God help the public officials who speak at car shows.”

Or maybe…

“We should restrict our alcohol rights because of those who can’t be responsible with their drink.  The Big Booze lobby should be ashamed of itself.”

Meh.

Of course, I could post a fact or two.  Those always work.

“The Constitution give us more rights to guns than it does to abortion.”

That would then just turn into a statistics discussion where the numbers of lives lost to gun violence would be bandied about and subsequently stifled by the number of lives lost to abortion violence.

Been there, done that, so I’m going to set aside the crafty analogies and answer you directly.

You say “Do something” about these mass shootings.

What you don’t seem to realize is that you’re demanding that we clean up the mess you’ve made.

You say “Do something” about these mass shootings.

You express your hopes of implementing a full scale gun grab, expanded background checks, a registry, and a whole slew of other requirements that law abiding people have to follow in order to enjoy and exercise our rights.

I say that everything in your suggested actions that can be implemented, has been.  You aren’t going to get much further because you’ve reached the limit of what we will allow you to do.

For what it’s worth, I suspect there are more laws on the books restricting gun rights today than there were when these mass shooting events started taking place.

Mass shootings are a symptom of a bigger problem.

You say “Do something” about these mass shootings.

I say “We are”, and I’ll tell you how.

We are trying to restore the values we had in this country before all of this mayhem started.

We are trying to roll back all of these utopian models implemented in the last thirty years which have led to these mass shootings.

We are trying to restore law and order which holds people accountable for their actions.

We are trying to vote out, discharge, and otherwise get rid of district attorneys and judges who have taken it upon themselves to decriminalize crime.

We are trying to fund and support our law enforcement agencies so that they can fight the crime that needs to be fought.

We are trying to secure our borders to keep foreign born malicious elements out of our society.

We are trying to remove the influence that corrupt academia has on us.

We are trying to remove the influence that the corrupt entertainment industry has on us.

We are trying to remove the influence that the corrupt professional sports industry has on us.

We are trying to remove the influence that the corrupt media has on us.

We are trying to remove the influence that the corrupt technology companies have on us.

We are trying to remove the influence that the corrupt purveyors of social justice have on us.

We are trying to remove the influence that corrupt narratives have on us.

We are trying to stop telling our youth that the world is coming to an end because of climate change.

We are trying to stop grooming our children with perverted and corrupt concepts.

We are trying to restore integrity to our corrupted election system.

We are trying to remove the willful disregard of human life.

We are trying to remove abortion.

We are trying to restore a healthy respect for the sanctity of human life from the point it’s conceived.

We are trying to teach our youth that “opportunity is nowhere” does not apply.

We are trying to teach our youth that “opportunity is now here”.

We are trying to restore Hope.

We are trying to let God back into our lives.

You say “Do something”.

Fine.

Get out of our way.
