Much like the last two Presidential elections, the upcoming 2010 mid-term elections are going rise to rest among the ranks of very important elections for this country. In 2004, Americans were charged with making the decision how the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq would be play out. This last year in 2008, the American people were once again charged with the making that same decision, along with a couple of other issues that are proving to be detrimental.
There may have been a time in years past where the mindset of the drive-by voter ruled the roost with the mentality that elections don’t mean anything. As such, their heart driven votes would be based on the aesthetics of the entire package instead of the substance within. The Board of Directors here at TharpSter.Org took a vote and came to the conclusion that this has never happened on a larger scale than what it did in the 2008 election. Millions of voters made the choice to swallow the candy coated blue pill and wash it down with plenty of Kool-Aid. In turn, they got the candidate in which they could project all of their hope and dreams upon.
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Here we are now, seven months into an administration which could very well last eight years, and look what we’ve got. Early in the year, a stimulus package was quickly enacted which will explode the deficit and fall considerably short of its goal to fix a short term problem. The White House drove the removal of a head honcho of what should presumably be a non-government entity out of a job. In turn the government has installed someone to run that same company, and has put a large stake of the company’s ownership in the hands of the union. A new Supreme Court Justice has been nominated and confirmed to the bench, who based on her words alone cannot even follow the words in the oath she has sworn to uphold. The President has bowed to royalty, and has taken worldwide tours to apologize for the tough and difficult decisions we have made in the recent past which had to be made.
Even now, the debate rages on to initiate a national energy tax which will have disastrous ripple effects on the U.S. economy.
Did I say disastrous? Don’t forget the proposed universal healthcare plan which will also serve to expand the tax fattened tuckus of the American government.
So with a third of the Senate and the entire House up for election, it’s going to be necessary for those of you who pay attention to things to get out there and vote in 2010. This one will mean something. The American people have got to get the incumbent elected officials out of office who have become complacent with exactly what the hell it is that we have sent them to Washington to do for us.
I’m not making any endorsements for specific candidates here. For that matter, I’m not making endorsements for specific political parties either. What I am doing is trying to wake you up to the fact that our elected officials are acting like that kid from Kramer Vs Kramer getting the ice cream out and disobeying his father’s perpetual admonishments not to eat it. It’s as easy as this. The kid has a big heaping spoonful of the bad stuff at his lips, and he’s about to get his ass beat 1979 style.
When it comes time to vote in the 2010 mid-term election, I want you to consider the following. Will the candidate who has earned your vote:
- Serve the best interests of you, your community, and our country, or the best interests of their personal goals or political party?
- View the Constitution as a framework or a guideline?
- Read the legislation that they vote for or against?
Those aren’t very difficult questions people. As it is now, a big portion of the elected officials we have sent to Washington to represent us are falling on the wrong side of those three questions.
