It’s late February and you know what that means don’t you?
I’ll give you a few hints.
The San Antonio Rodeo is complete for the year and the Spurs have a home game on Wednesday.
So what event tying these two subjects together will hit the local news today?
Dirt.
The rodeo and Spurs games happen in the AT&T Center, and they both happen on different floors.
Every year, the Spurs go on a “rodeo road trip” where they play a bunch of away games while all things FFA take place on their home court.
Now that it’s all over, we in the San Antonio area are under a constant barrage about how the dirt from the rodeo is used and reused every year. It’s stored under lock and key in a bunch of single serving Tupperware containers for the next year.
Screw the high gas prices, the bad economy, and that shooting in Ohio this morning.
The dirt story is a prime indication that a slow news day will reign supreme regardless of whether butt probing aliens invade Wisconsin today or choose to wait another week or two.
Perish the thought that this is an isolated incident though. Stupid news barely worthy of the toilet paper it’s written on has plagued the area for years.
Last year, the 2010 census figures revealed that men were living longer. The news station which reported this was bold enough to suggest that upcoming cuts to Medicare as a result of Obamacare were part of the move for men to participate in wellness programs. No suggestions were made the that reason behind this could be the continued leaps and bounds that medicine has made over the last few decades.
When TOTUS & The Symbiont finally coughed up a birth certificate, the same station reported that the birthers would keep it up because they were racist.
And then there was that time last year when the Spurs were knocked out of the playoffs. Professional shrinks we’re paraded on the local stations to discuss the possibility that Spurs fans could become clinically depressed as a result of their favorite team’s exit from post season play. I could only wonder how they felt in Detroit that year the Lions went 0-16.
What a buncha Streep.
Fortunately, San Antonio has a good supply of dirt for it’s next rodeo.
