Cool Your Muffins

For those of you who may have never entertained the notion of grabbing the yellow and red box of vitamin packed goodness from the healthier side of the cereal aisle at the grocery store, allow me a moment to extol the virtues of Malt-O-Meal.   According to the outside of the box, this quick cooking hot wheat cereal is a good source of folic acid, calcium, and iron.  If that’s not enough, then I’ll pass on a secret to enhance its palatability.  Add about a cup of butter and just as much sugar before plunging your spoon into this breakfast delight and you’ll earn Malt-O-Meal its rightful place in the cereal aisle among all of the other products which are based in sugar and topped off with a toy.

One thing you may not know about Malt-O-Meal, is the fact that there is a good recipe for muffins on the side of the box.  Mix in some of the stuff from the box with some flour, sugar (less than I put in a regular serving), milk, eggs, and some of those other baking substances that hold it all together, throw it in a muffin pan or two, and put it in a 400 degree oven for about 18 – 20 minutes.  Naturally, you can cut that time in half by boosting the temperature up to 800 degrees.  I don’t really need to tell you that though, as it’s pretty common knowledge.  Once the timer goes off and the mixture has been subjected a sufficient quantity of heat, you are set to enjoy the wholesome goodness brought to you by the good people of Malt-O-Meal.

Naturally, this blog wouldn’t be complete if I were to neglect to point out the hidden flaw in the muffins.  I know the cereal executives might get whipped up in a froth over this revelation, however I feel that it’s only fair to make the unknown secrets of Malt-O-Meal Magic Muffins public.

Once you’ve baked the muffins, they need to cool.  Don’t eat them immediately as they could burn your hands or the inside of your mouth.  Put them in a dry place where they can cool for awhile.  When selecting the cooling place, be sure to make it one where the casual passerby does not feel compelled to test either the temperature or the taste of the fruits of your labor.

Now you don’t have to buy the special pans for the tops only.
