Real Men of Genius

Back on July 16th of this year, Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates was arrested in his own home by Sergeant James Crowley of the Cambridge Police for disorderly conduct.  It would seem there was some sort of confrontation between the players in this event when Gates was seen breaking into his own home.

I don’t know all of the sordid details of whatever led to Gates’ arrest that evening, and I won’t even bother to comment on who was right and who was wrong.  I’ll leave the practice of making uninformed pronouncements of judgment to the President, as he did in an unrelated press conference about a week later.

As expected in cases like this, the public uproar over the entire incident, the reported behavior of Gates and Crowley, and Obama’s continued inability to apply a filter or two to what he says devolved the entire situation into a call for a July 30th summit between the three at the White House over a beer.  Mr. Gates would choose Red Stripe, Sgt. Crowley would choose Blue Moon, and the President chose Bud Light.

One thing that can be said about Bud Light is that I really like their Real Men of Genius advertising campaign, which is designed to mock the unsung heroes of our time.

Alright gang.  The picture has been painted.  We have the primary target of my mockery and criticism drinking a beer which possesses a pretty good advertising campaign.  What do you think is coming next?  As a disclaimer, anything you should read in this post going forward is not requested or sanctioned by the good people at Anheuser Busch.

Narrator: Bud Light presents “Real Men of Genius”

Singer: Real Men of Genius

Narrator: Today we salute you, Mr. Maker of Uninformed Pronouncements of Judgment.

Singer: Mr. Maker of Uninformed Pronouncements of Judgment.

Narrator: With TOTUS in front of you and the sycophantic mainstream media behind you, you’re free to say whatever you want about a situation without knowing all of the facts first.  Yet still, you aren’t held accountable for the brilliant display of ignorance that escapes your mouth on a regular basis.

Singer: You acted stupidly.

Back up singers: Stoop, Stoop, Stupidly.

Narrator: Even when you are called for your remarks, do you apologize?  No.  You turn the entire event into a photo opportunity under the guise of participating in a teachable moment.

Singer: Suds on the White House lawn.

Narrator: And when it’s all over, you come out looking like the winner.  With the teachable moment behind you, you’re ready to move on to making more judgments on matters where you are completely ignorant.  The healthcare, automotive, and financial services industries are ripe for the picking when it comes to you doing what you do best.

Singer: Don’t forget small business.

Narrator: So crack open an ice cold Bud Light Mr. Maker of Uninformed Pronouncements of Judgment, because you really butted in where you didn’t belong.

Singer: Mr. Maker of Uninformed Pronouncements of Judgment
